A hideous old hag holding a bone between her teeth, a cleaver in one hand, and a severed human head in the other.

Kokuri Baba was once the wife of a head priest. She helped her husband by tending to the temple, keeping its grounds spotless, tirelessly doing chores, assisting the parishioners with devotion. But one day, the head priest passed away, leaving the widow to fend for herself. Initially, the parishioners continued visiting the temple to pray, but over time, without the head priest, the number of visitors and donations dwindled. Having dedicated her entire life to the temple, the poor widow suddenly found herself without a source of income.

As a result, she became withdrawn, rarely leaving the temple and having little to no social contact. When she reached the end of her rope, she resorted to stealing food and money donated by parishioners. Because of this sin, she could not pass on after death and transformed into a yokai called Kokuri Baba.
