Kitsune (Japan)

Kitsune were once ordinary foxes. After reaching a certain age, they gained supernatural powers and transformed into intelligent shapeshifters. These yokai are hundreds, if not thousands, of years old, and the older a kitsune gets, the more powerful it becomes.

Kitsune are mostly portrayed as mischievous yokai that use their shapeshifting abilities to play pranks on humans. However, some are known to protect and help people. Malevolent kitsune are more interested in exploiting humans. They possess the same supernatural abilities as their benevolent counterparts but use them to deceive humans so they could drain their victims’ life force or consume their flesh.
