Magtitima (Philippines)

Magtitima are nature spirits that inhabit large, ancient trees, particularly balete trees, and are known for fiercely protecting their homes, harming anyone who attempts to cut down their trees.

Magtitima punish tree-cutters by afflicting them with incurable diseases. Victims may die under unexplained circumstances or suffer from mysterious illnesses.
