Iqui, also known as ikki, are self-segmenting creatures from Philippine folklore, similar to abat (see Chapter 2). Unlike abat which separate at the waist and fly using only their hands, iqui detach their main torsos from the knees and have bat-like wings.
Aside from these characteristics, iqui share many traits with abat. They appear as ordinary individuals during the day and transform into monstrous flying creatures at night. Iqui are said to attack travelers and raid homes, brutally ripping people apart to feast on their hearts and livers. They are predominantly depicted as males, with some believing them to be male counterparts of the manananggal, another flying aswang in Philippine mythology.
