Alex and I continued our journey from Tampines Changkat Butterfly Garden to the pickup point for the IKEA Tampines shuttle, which was located right next to Tampines One shopping mall. It was a long walk, but we enjoyed it.

The walking path ran along the overhead train tracks. The stretch was nestled between HDB blocks and had tracks for both pedestrians and cyclists.

Along the way, we saw a spot with a group of colorful swings and even a small patch of grass with some decorations—a cluster of white balls, the ones you typically expect to see in some shopping malls—with benches along the path. That stretch of road felt spacious to walk along, but I still needed to watch out for bicycles. In the video, when you don’t see Alex leading the way, it’s because I was holding his hand. Autistic kids aren’t always the most aware of road safety, so I see these weekend trips as an opportunity to teach him about traffic safety.

We came across a playground along the way. It’s listed as “Playground, Tampines Green” on Google Maps, but I’m not sure about its real name. I don’t remember seeing any signboards around that playground, or I may have missed it.

Alex had a lot of fun playing there. One game he played was running away from lava. He loves anything related to children’s videos about volcanoes and lava, so he imagined he was running from flowing lava by jumping across big boulders. I added a very basic lava animation in the video to thrill him.

Then we reached Tampines Bike Maze, a small cycling track painted with bright colors and playful patterns. I think children would love it. Alex definitely loved the rainbow-framed tunnel and enjoyed walking through it. But please be mindful of safety, as it’s supposed to be a cycling track. Although it’s short, it’s a charming and playful track.

Next week, we continue our journey to IKEA Tampines—and the most anticipated adventure of all for Alex on this trip: taking the IKEA shuttle bus.
