Holey Back is an urban legend about a school ghost that sometimes appears after school hours. The legend has it that the ghost is the spirit of a high-school student killed during the 8888 uprising in Myanmar, which took place on August 8, 1988. These nationwide protests led by students from Yangon erupted against the oppression of the military government. During this historical movement, several students lost their lives when soldiers opened fire to suppress the protests. Allegedly, Holey Back is the spirit of a student who was fatally shot during the uprising.
