An illustration of Aacheri, a sinister looking child

Aacheri in Indian folklore is a malevolent spirit of a child who died under tragic circumstances. These spirits are believed to approach children by masquerading as friendly playmates and adults by taking on the guise of a sickly child in need. Their main agenda is to inflict people with incurable diseases, ultimately bringing death, and spreading sickness wherever they roam.
